The Great Network

More UNITED than we realize!

"Money". I enjoyed The Great Work series, but I must say I disagree (or don't get what its got to do) with money being a part of this whole mastering the physical plane, or "getting your house in order". I really don't see what gathering pieces of paper, or numbers on a screen, has got to do with this. As far as I'm concerned it has no relation whatsoever. Money is only what we collectively agree it is, it merely represents thought, which is infinite, through physical objects, which are limited in availability (by design). Or as far as numbers on a screen are concerned, which takes this nonsense to the next level, there seems to be some imaginary limit to their availability that results in poverty and people dying of starvation, people having to spend their lives doing silly nonsense to gather what they only need because they think they need it - because they choose to need it. This is completely ridicilous. To end poverty is therefore as simple as "£10,000,000,000", literally, because that's all they do at the bank is sprout numbers from thin air, but for some "unknown" reason there isn't enough of these imaginary numbers to go around.

If we trade physical objects that represent thought, then why do we need to depend upon some external entity (the banks) as to how much thought we can trade between eachother? Why do we need something that's limited in availability to represent what is infinite in nature? Wouldn't this simply end in disaster, isn't it ending in, or existing as disaster as we speak? My conclusion is that its not money that needs to be mastered, because its not that we haven't yet mastered it that's the problem. The problem is what "money" is to begin with, no amount of mastery is going to fix this problem. Its not a problem that needs to be solved, its a problem that is a problem because we choose to hold on to it, nothing more. So personally I really don't think its something that should be mastered or "fixed" in any way, because it is fundamentally broken, it contains within it the seeds of its own destruction. It is designed to eventually collapse on itself.

As a simple example: Imagine a pot of gold that represents the wealth of the entire planet. Now you borrow all the gold that's in the pot. But you must return that gold - with interest. How do you pay the interest? All the gold is in the pot, there can't possibly be any interest to pay back. So what are you to give in return, instead of gold as interest, because there is no more? Your house, your car, your land. Everything you think you own. Its all designed as a one way street - you are the one to lose out. Its no different than playing a rigged slot machine, its designed to benefit the house. Sooner or later there is going to be nothing left to give, because what you're paying the bank also comes from the bank. To pay back interest they must supply you with more money, on which you have to pay more interest, with yet more money from them. The source and the destination are one. Its a bubble that will inevitably pop, because its designed to be that way.

Not that the money we use is based on anything physical in the first place. Its limited availability is completely made up. So, why do we need it, why should we want to master something that's fundamentally unmasterable?

Hi Simon,

Initiation one (the Earth element) isn't really about 'mastering money' per say, that just happens to be one of the variables that we have to contend with, and like it or not effect our quality of life, on the physical plane. Having more one's & zeroes in your account certainly doesn't make you a better person, or necessarily a happier person, but it's certainly easier to engage in your life's work without bill collectors constantly calling you, or the IRS carting you off to jail.

Mastering your earth element is really about getting your 'house in order' here on the physical plane. That can look like a lot of things: Having a job you enjoy, getting your health to a place that you think it should be, having your relationships be the healthiest they can be, conquering the habits that you no longer wish to have(as well as creating new ones that you do), bringing your personality into balance, and yes, getting control of your finances. In short, they are your goals regarding the physical plane. Once these things are under a reasonable amount of your control, it really makes the rest of your great work go that much smoother.

Obviously this is a life long process, and something that changes as we evolve as people, but ultimately the mastering of your earth element is just another step towards realizing your 'True Will' and improves the quality of the ride along the way.

Of course, this just my current perspective on the topic & is in no way THE perspective :)

I hope this was helpful.

Hey. Yes I understand that Initiation One isn't really about mastering money, I just don't see what this ultimately has to do with the physical plane. If we choose to use it then yes, but its only causing us problems, its too controlled and manipulated for us to really master it. The moment you have say $10,000 in the bank, the banks can suddenly print another load of paper, and your $10,000 suddenly can't get you the same amount of physical objects as it could before. So that makes mastering money as a part of the physical plane somewhat of a challenge to say the least. The closer you get, it hops away from you again. Almost as if the carrot on a stick is held by yourself.

But I like Ian Lungold's way of explaining it - we are spiritual beings, so what do spiritual beings trade? Thought, appreciation. If I give you a physical object in a trade, that physical object merely represents/symbolises my thoughts of appreciation. I'm not entirely happy with needing a physical object to represent it, because how can anything's value really be defined. What's valuable to you may not be AS valuable as it is for me, so why should we have to trade the same amount of thought/physical objects in return for it.

As with "energy costs" - how does what has always existed suddenly increase in value? It costs nothing to begin with, its already there. But one may argue "supply and demand" covers that, and that resources may be limited. So, what about land. Some guy stood on a piece of land, claimed it as his own, and then the next person who comes along has to pay him for it, when it cost nothing to begin with. Where is the logic in that? And how can its value increase? In reality its impossible. Its all based on thought, or we take it a step further into the realm of imagination. So I see no reason why I should need to go to work and gather physical objects to pay for things that cost nothing to begin with.

As with the IRS carting you off to jail, that's because we choose to allow it, we choose to live that way. But it doesn't actually benefit the population. Its an obstacle that we have ourselves built in the longrun, or we allowed it to become what it is at least.

Anyway I'm ranting to myself now, as you may have guessed I have strong opinions regarding money within the way this whole system we call "civilization" works, I could get a lot deeper but perhaps it would be best to start another discussion for that :)

I agree with everything else you've said though, and you've brought up a couple of points I hadn't thought of. I have nothing to say about that except good advice.

It was indeed helpful and you've given me some things to consider, thanks for your reply :)

Although, more groups and forums have been added since I posted this, its not necessarily about Initiation One as a whole.

While I totally agree with your take on money (as far as how it is created and manipulated), what I took away from the film was that one has to master survival, taking care of needs and separating them from wants.  I know for myself when I am worrying about how some bills are going to get paid or I get sucked into the void of materialism (thinking I "need" a particular "thing" to enhance my life or make me happy), it is much more difficult for me to attend to spiritual matters. While "The Great Work" (the series) has a lot of practical and pragmatic information with regard to stages of spiritual development, remember at the end of the day, we are all dealing with symbols here.  Money is nothing more than a symbol of consensus (and can be a very confusing and tricky one at that as it seems more and more that money and "debt" seem to be getting merged in our collective unconsciousness) and "mastering" it should probably be considered in the manner that one would master a tool (like a hammer which can be used to build or to demolish).

Of course it is all in your mind, that does not mean that it's not real (okay I don't believe I just quoted a Harry Potter book on the Great Network) ---I am a pretty tacky guy and no one should really take me that seriously!
