The Great Network

More UNITED than we realize!

Here are a few of my absolute MUST have Tarot books. Most of these are self-development centered, not divination-centered. Although, most end up covering some of both topics.

Tarot and the Journey of the Hero - Hajo-Banzhaf

This book is a favorite of mine because it goes so in-depth into the Hero's Journey through each card. The pictures and illustrations are amazing as well. You can read this book over and over again and always get something new out of it. Reading this book from cover to cover will give you a feeling of being self-guided through the mysteries of Tarot - just an excellent read!!

The WatkinsTarot Handbook: The Practical System of Self-Discovery b...

This book is extremely valuable for the Initiate - Naomi lays out the path of the Initiate in very good detail, along with pathworking exercises for each major arcana card. This is an incredible book which has not gained much notice and is highly underrated!!

The Qabalistic Tarot: A Textbook of Mystical Philosophy by Robert Wang

A true Tarot classic. This book is a MUST HAVE for any initiate of the mysteries.

The Tarot: A Contemporary Course of the Quintessence of Hermetic Oc...

I am still reading this book, but it is very much geared toward the Initiate and is not about divination at all. It is not easy reading - more like trying to drink maple syrup - it's very rich and takes much thought and processing. There are some things I've noticed that are different in this book, namely that the Hebrew letter attributions are different than in Wang's book and several other books on Tarot (see my note with Lon Milo Duquette about that issue elsewhere in this Topic).

That's all for now - I look forward to seeing some other recommendations...

Great idea for thread Bill, thanks for sharing this with us. Here are a couple of Tarot books that I've found extremely valuable:

The Tarot: A Key to the Wisdom of the Ages by Paul Foster Case
http://www.amazon.com/Tarot-Key-Wisdom-Ages/dp/1585424919/ref=pd_bb...

New Dimensions for the Cube of Space: The Path of Initiation Revealed by the Tarot upon the Qabalistic Cube by David Allen Hulse
http://www.amazon.com/New-Dimensions-Cube-Space-Initiation/dp/15786...

Both of these books are based on the teachings of Paul Foster Case. If anyone is not familiar with his work or the wonderful correspondence course from the organization he founded, Builders Of The Adytum (B.O.T.A.), I highly recommend that you check it out here: http://www.bota.org/

New Dimensions for the Cube of Space: The Path of Initiation Revealed by the Tarot upon the Qabalistic Cube by David Allen Hulse is one of my favorite books ever!!! I am so enthralled by it right now.

I have a couple more to add!
Nice Tread Honey!
Okay, without trying to be a brown-noser here, I would be remiss if I didn't mention a book that was written by one of our very own members here!

Simply one of the best, most readable texts on Crowley's Thoth Tarot:

Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot by Lon Milo Duquette

This book reads very well, but is also so rich with information that it remains a book I reference and return to again and again. They should really sell the deck and this book together, since trying to decipher Crowley at times is like getting a root canal. :)
Tarot: Mirror of the Soul by Gerd Ziegler
This one is the best book for me along with Lon Milo Duquette's Crowley Tarot. It's simple but full of information (and my first book on Tarot).
I must admit, even a person whose read as much of A.C.'s work as I have has learned much about my favorite Tarot deck. The Thoth Tarot deck is easier since I read Lon Milo DuQuette's Understanding Aleister Crowleys Thoth Tarot. Israel Reguardie, H.P. Blavatsky, Manly P. Hall, and ofcourse The Book of Thoth by A.C. are essential sources on this subject for me. My list of poetry and prose on 86 cards of The Enochian Tarot by Gerald and Betty Schueler and a few of the Thoth Tarot are the writtings on Tarot that moved me most, because it took my own experience to put them forth. I think that is how it should be with most religious or spiritual material.
Hi Israel,

I am just coming back to the forum, it's been a while since I've had my last confession... ;) Anyway, I DID get the Jodorowsky book and deck, and am actively using the cards and reading the book. I love the approach of staying within tradition, although I will also say that I think Jodorowsky has possibly split some hairs (like adding crescent moons in hair, etc...) in his overall interpretation of "tradition". Regardless, I love the book and the deck. There is much to really like about this deck and book, I completely agree, Israel!!

Vanese, if you're reading this thread still, big hugs to you - haven't talked to you in a long time!! I hope you and your hubby are doing well!! I haven't had much time on the boards lately, I am freelancing and work takes up much of my time these days. I still get nostalgic for matters of the mind and spirit sometimes, hence my ending up posting again today! ;) Hope everyone on the network is great...
IMHO, Paul Foster Case's two books, "Tarot Wisdom" and "Tarot Revelations" are unequaled in the literature, the latter being perhaps the single most profound book on Tarot there is, with the possible exception of "The Book of Thoth" for those of you who can read Uncle Al. Many of the other books mentioned by other members are also magnificent.

Beside all the great books mentioning above here Two "Easy" to Understand Guidebooks on Waite and Crowley Tarot

"Easy Tarot Guide." 1987 by Marcia Masino / ACS Publications, 5521 Ruffm Road, San Diego, CA 92123, USA.

„The Tarot Handbook",  1987 by Angeles Arrien / Arcus Publishing Company, Sonora, California.

Though I have read many books on the Tarot and have taken a course on them in my younger years I find that Jungian's though it quite interesting.

JUNG AND THE TAROT

The Jungian Tarot Deck

However, one of the most interesting concepts that ever came to me concerning the Tarot Trumpt is that since the Zohar and the first word of Genesis: BERESHITH has the Hebrew alphabet going from last to first should not the Tarot Trumpt be seen in the same manner?????

In other words the soul/psyche enters the WORLD and leaves a MAGICIAN fully conversant concerning the nature of the four elements (suits); earth, air, fire and water..
