I'm a big Joseph Campbell/George Lucas fan. This certainly has led me on a journey to learn more on mythology. What mythology books touched your life. We know about so many of the common myths but it's so wonderful to find them in books that show beautiful illustrations with superb storytelling telling it in a way we can understand and relate to. I just found a trilogy on Greek mythology this week with nice paintings in them. One of these is a book I started reading today about the Aeneid called In Search of a Homeland by Penelope Lively. As I read it, I find lots of spiritual allegory in the descriptions of the battles. There are plenty of mystical experiences in the book and this book shows many examples about how the Divine intervenes in the life of the protagonist. The story is so well told and adults enjoy this book as kids do especially since the pictures are so breathtaking. What mythology stories touch your life on a spiritual level. Are there any beautiful books on mythology you recommend?
Some of the best mythological stories I have read were not from the Classical Mythological works that are so popular amongst those that study world mythologies but rather those told by Jungian psychoanalysts who study the psyche.
The Classical mythologies around the world are liken to the ABCs, which allows us to read any book and the base numerical set: first nine numbers, which allows for study and use of mathematics. Getting a foundations to the world mythologies allows us to see those mythologies working out in the lives of individual people in our life experiences.
Reading the works of Carl G. Jung and his students and their finding concerning the mythologies is quite an interesting study, which allows each of us to learn more about are own psyches. It even allows me to see the great archetypal patterns worked out in the sacred scriptures on an esoteric level.
