The Great Network

More UNITED than we realize!

Not sure if this is the place to start this kind of threaded conversation, but I wanted to purpose a question that perhaps some of those on this group may be interested in answering

The question is if there is room today, in modern age, for another "Secret Society"?

Recently I've noticed a few new start ups, an occasional lodge opened with a new agenda or ideal that no other past group; would support or allow, and I like that, but in the age of so much diversity, is there really room for expansion, and still maintain some form of organization. Or, would a new group today serve better not being so organized?

What do you think?

One of the reason for secrecy in secret societies is because even if you gave freely the esoteric science to the unitiate he or she would not understand what you are talking about. It would be as if your efforts were for naught as if you had not spoken a word to aid them to start on their quest. Hence the secrecy clause is built into the esoteric science for it matters not whether or not you speaks these spiritual things to the profane. The New Testament says "cast not your pearls before swine less they turn and rend you". What a warning that is. For those that are profane will not even entertain the true spiritual ideas being cast before him.

You see, Michael, I do understand the universal law that is being invoked with such an admonition from Christ but he also said "go into the whole world and teach the gospel be ye wise as serpent and harmless as doves."

Another common thread is that in this new open age we should all share equally in this so called " occult knowledge" Well a great amount of what used to be withheld HAS been revealed, that is the imperative of the times,,, but... the question of FITNESS must surly come into it? Are we fit, ( worthy ) to receive profound and powerful knowledge? .......
The vows taken were for a very real reason, one of them being .... For our own protection!

I think we have it here in these quotes WJM and MRJ.

It is, on the one hand, our duty to spread the knowledge of what we have learnt, but on the other to exercise caution for our own safety because disclosure can make us vulnerable.

Chesed and Geburah. Generosity and Caution. Mercy and Severity.

At some time or other most of us have probably had the experience of being too open about our emotions and then been ridiculed or torn apart by the wolves, or sneered at for believing in conspiracies, UFOs, whatever.

These are the actions of the swine turning to rend us apart.

It would be so nice if we could trust everyone, if it was a simple matter of teaching innocents who simply want to learn, but there are so many hidden agendas out there, we are not the only ones with secrets!

I am currently getting into looking at the work of Dr Paul Ekman who has done a lot of research on micro expressions and universal facial expressions, fear, hate, anger, joy. People hide behind words, when their bodies tell the truth because they cannot hide from themselves inside, even when they attempt to project something else that they want to deceive us with.

Learning when to trust someone is a very high level lesson. We can deceive ourselves with our own projection of what we want to believe when we should be seeing the bared fangs behind the smile...

Learning to see the Truth... opening the Third Eye.
It occurs to me that in some ways perhaps there is already a secret society of those whose perceptions work at higher levels, or indeed many secret societies, for all different levels of development.

You know how you can notice people who give different cues, have different 'auras'.
The chances of a new society staying together are slim. No history to maintain it.

I have issues with such thinking. Not because of the utopia ideas expressed. They sound great and wonderful but unrealistic for the simple reason that there are just too too many people that have kind hearts but have not a brain in their head. Look at all the good intentions that turn out wrong: i.e. starting a new sect of Christianity because one person believes that he is interpreting the text better than others. So I do not see opening the third eye by simply trusting an indicidual that has a good heart.

I remember the story of the Buddha when he started out as a young man seeking enlightenment. He left his home town with a friend to listen to all the great sages of the world. They were all kind and decent people these great sages but nothing kindle the fire in Siddhatha's mind from antything any of these gurus had to say. Each of these teachers had their own little community with rules and regulations and certain clothing to be worn, books to be read and rituals that had to be practiced. But Siddhatha's heart could not be kindle by such mundane teachings. Finally they came upon a most profound teacher and Siddhatha 's friend found in this man a great sage and decided he would follow his teachings but Siddhatha had to continue on his own.

Finally, Siddhatha came to a river and wanted to cross but he did not have the payment but the boatman gave him a ride and told him he could pay it when he returned. The Boatman lived on his own there by the river and seem to be content with his lot for there by the river he had found the secrets of life.

Many many years later as Siddhatha made his circulous journey he came back to the same group that his friend had stayed with and his friend was happy and living the regimented life. His friend tried to get Siddhatha to settle down but the spirit in Siddhatha kept him moving because inwardly he was not satisfied.

Siddhatha came across the boatman's hut again and found that the old boatman had died and a new boatman was needed to ferry people across the river. Siddhatha took up residence in the old hut and between ferrying people across the river he contemplated life and the world: it is there in the contemplation of that river that he became enlightened.

Of course this story is a metaphor for the initiate that sets out on the quest. There are answers to life questions and the universe has provided them. The key to finding them is to see them in nature and the world and God's principles and not those mandated by ego. [Personally I can not be chained to a regimented life by becoming a follower and it is too much of a burden to take on the mantle of leadership.]

I personally do not believe that fellowship is the answer to the QUEST but I do believe that we can learn from each other even in our self-imposed hermitage: read books, videos, internet, etc....

I have personally made a monastery out of my life though I live and work in the midst of a 21-century city. I believe that the quest is a one on one relationship with God. Believe me when I tell you I am not lonely for I am never never alone: for God is always with me even to the end of the world.
I have ran part of my order through internet communications. There will always be room for such things on the internet, but violation can be quickly widespread in a way that seems so self evident to not leave doubt of their tale. Of course, initiation is in and of itself experiencial.
