I only mention this because her classes do not come around very often - like 1 or 2 times a year

Well - I do not see a problem with the idea that everything extended from a singularity. Most of the creation myths in one way or another indicated that idea. As far as it being extended inappropriately - I think that is a big blanket statement : ) " people start thinking that anything that MIGHT be similar must be Indentical and connected" yeah - maybe in a " I am not thinking about it too hard - like I am at a party and I do not know anybody, and you look like me so I will gravitate towards you" in a kind of way - but I think if serious consideration is given to the idea - there is a lot of possible answers, depending on your perspective...no? I am just a beginner here - so be gentle with me : )

As for harm - I think as we educate ourselves we evolve through many different levels of understanding - I have yet to have been "harmed". Even the erronius have added to my world view : ) eventually : )
