I don´t believe that the most people have a choice. It depending on the pattern you´re created in this  (for some beings surley not) amazing Incarnation. In the vajrayana point of view it is the task of a lifetime to be aware in that very moment of so called death.

The most people will loose their concentration by overcoming of fears,doubts or sorrow ect.The best example are the most of us, because if we´re don´t loose the concentration and realise the clear light as what it is( ourself) we will be free, on the spot, from the Wheel of Life. But this it where the so called Karma comes to grip.Your Believesystems, the programms you build up in your mind throughout your whole life, will make you loose( or win). Who can master the Winds of Karma when the storm a raise at sudden?

As jaefar said as long it is not the muladhara Chakra or manipura everything will be good and if not...the good Message is even if your reborn in the hell, ghost or the Animalrealm nothing is forever (except so called Paranirvana)

But a Bodhisattva is like a shephard who brings always first his sheeps at home and then if everyone is safe he goes too.

That´s why many Wanderer of the Path will choose to come back as humans, reject  Enlightment take all the suffering again to become a light to those who suffers in the Darkness of ignorance, until the Work is done and WE ALL AT HOME.

Unchangeable awareness, free from fabrication; Whatever arises it is just coming from the beginningless beginning state whatever is abiding, it is just abiding in the beginningless beginning state. Whatever is liberating is liberating from the beginningless beginning state, just like the nature of the stainless sky. 

Arising,abiding, liberating, all these three are coming from the unending Dharmakaya, so there is no cessation of arising and liberation.

Since there is no cessation, there is no way for cause and result to interrupt.

Since there is no cause and result, the cliff of Samsara cease.

Since there is no cliff, where is the State of Error?

In the unchanging beginningless expanse of Kuntuzangpo( The always Good)

In the transitionless expanse of Vajrasattva (Holder of the Indestructible),

just by recognizing the unconditioned self-face, this name just named Buddha.

By realizing this, there is no Dharma( Law) to accept or throw away.

All phenomena pervade in the sole oneness of Dharmata.

There is nothing to discriminate, like an Island full of gold.
