Perhaps not books that have changed my life, but ones that have a most significant effect on my worldview:
The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious - C.G. Jung.
Aion - C.G. Jung.
These books have radically changed the way I view the psychic landscape, a term I would never have used previously. Amazing thought processes therein.
The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind - Julian Jaynes.
If this amazingly well researched hypothesis from deceased psychologist Jaynes is anywhere near true paradigm shift is a term not capable in terms of breadth and scope to encompass the concept. A must read.
The Golden Bough - Sir James Frazer.
Though a venerable and therefore slightly aged work Frazer's theory on the ancient ritual and magickal underpinnings to the present orthodox Christian paradigm is an eye opener. Scapegoat indeed.

Permalink Reply by Tony Hogan on September 10, 2009 at 5:21am I'm very sorry for your loss Tony, that is about the worst kind of loss a person can endure, my thoughts & prayers are with you my friend. I have experienced similar but I'm sure not quite the same as you. I also didn't know u've experienced traveling out of body!?!? That is quite an experience, I know about these things, though I don't really know much else there is that's important in this world. It's quite a ride that's for sure! =)
the bible was good, particularly at the sermon on the mount....good stuff there.
Oh, and I love the dexter series....
